Xena is given a second chance to make up for all the evil she has done, but, the important thing is: The Arch Angel Michael has given Xena 3 life times to find her way. Why three lifetimes? Because Xena asked for that long. This is where the real story comes into play." -- Doria

The spell affects her entire kingdom, turning her soldiers and servants into various animals. Ares tries to reverse Xena's predicament, but can only allow Xena and her kingdom the power of human speech. “Gabrielle, is the one-legged Poet of Potidaea; historian, orator, and chronicler for the great Emperor, Alexander. She tells what happened when the war was over, and she left the palace in Corinth, going to Shark Island to speak to Xena in her prison cell, and what transpired thereafter.“ -- Athenaeum
This is definitely not an ordinary Conqueror story. One of the first things that set it apart is the time setting – we see not the world of the cruel conqueror Xena, but the world after her fall from grace. In this world the Destroyer of Nations is captured and imprisoned on Shark Island by Alexander. The story presents us Xena’s life through the eyes of Gabrielle – poet, bard and chronicler of the new Emperor, Alexander.
Gabrielle goes to the island prison to interview Xena, hoping to understand the former ruthless leader better, for the sake of history and future generations. On the island she finds something she hadn’t expected – the human being behind the façade of remorseless and cruel warlord. But to get to the real person Xena is, Gabrielle has to overcome her own bitterness towards the Conqueror who ordered her crucified. She also has to stop the abusive and vengeful warden of the prison – Thelassa, whose hopeless crush on the poet makes a surprising turn. -- Maxine Powers
"Gabrielle is a one-legged poet who lost her limb after she was crucified by the Conqueror. Seven years later, the Conqueror is defeated by Alexander and put into prison on Shark Island. Gabrielle goes to speak with her to record her history. She finds a woman who is receiving the punishment everyone thought she deserves, but facing the human being behind the evil isn't as easy as Gabrielle thought it would be. Xena also has her own demons to fight. Even if Gabrielle can forgive her, can anyone else, and can Xena ever forgive herself? . . . very highly recommended. " -- Cee's FanFic Review
Xena has "been defeated by Alexander, and is prisoner in Shark Island, at the mercy of the sadistic warden Thelassa. Gabrielle has lost a leg as a consequence of her crucifixion, and is bitter and angry. She wants to hate Xena, and the former Destroyer of Nations helps it in their first meeting insulting her and hurting her with her words. Xena the Conqueror sends to the cross another rebel, the leader of the Corinthian Resistance. And then something changes – a vision of two crosses in the snow and a blond woman with beautiful eyes makes her rethink her decision and save the girl. She will soon find that it was the wisest thing she’s done. But will she have enough time to enjoy the bond that is slowly building between her and Gabrielle of Potedaia? (It’s really sad that this story is unfinished – it’s a great read and I’m sure it could be one of the best Conqueror stories out there if it were finished). -- Maxine Powers
". . . Impressed by the young woman's bravery but determined to show the people how pointless any efforts at opposing her will be, Xena does not hesitate to order the insurrectionist's crucifixion, instructing the soldiers to break her legs in the process. The cruel empress stands by stoically as her victim's screams flood the courtyard but once her eyes are captured by the anguished ones starring back at her from that cross suddenly another vision floods her mind - a vision from another time and place on a snowy mountain where she is herself on a cross and on another one right beside her those same green eyes are shinning back at her with nothing but love. It is a vision that shakes the Conqueror to the depths of her souls making her realize that she may have just made the most horrible mistake of her life . . . this one comes VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! -- Lunacy

“What if Xena had met Gabrielle when she was still a warlord?” -- Catherine M. Wilson
"Conqueror by Catherine M. Wilson is NC-17 and has the distinction of being written before any Conqueror eps were actually aired . . . A young girl volunteers to be held hostage in Xena’s camp in exchange for the safety of her village. What could the warlord do with her? Xena certainly has some ideas, but surprisingly, she doesn’t act on any of them. What makes this girl special and how will Xena resolve the unusual situation? -- Maxine Powers
". . . this EXCEPTIONAL warlord/slave tale . . . does a beautiful job of exploring the mutual allure of darkness and light, of power and innocence in a world where love can bring destruction...or grant redemption. It begins with a warlord accepting a gift from her men - a young village girl who's offered herself in exchange for the safety of her people. Intrigued by the combination of defiance and fear, sensuality and innocence, the warlord decides not to break her captive just yet, wanting the girl to come to her instead. Soon, however, this self-imposed challenge is dominating the warlord's every waking moment as a heart previously devoid of uncertainty starts to waver in its purpose sensing that in this battle between warlord and slave an unlikely conqueror may emerge. Catherine gives us a riveting psychological portrayal here of a warlord comfortable in her power yet vulnerable in her craving for the very simplicity and innocence she abandoned long ago. Though more subtly depicted, the slave is equally as complex, with an inner strength that belies the frail exterior and a curious attraction to the very darkness that also repels her. This is a nicely executed study of two very different soulmates who seem to know one another better than they know themselves. A MUST READ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" -- Lunacy
“Dark in both deed and desire, Lord Xena held her empire in a painful grip, determined to have her reign go down in the annals of history as not only the most powerful, but the most fearsome as well. Into her stronghold was brought a young woman naive in the ways of the world but learned in the ways of the heart. Her fierce determination to change the cold and heartless Conqueror would have both women in a battle of wills, pitting both against each other, the truth, and life as they both knew it.” -- Academy of Bards
"Lord Xena is the ultimate ruler of Corinth with a violent reputation. Her life is changed in ways she could never have expected when a young rebel is brought before her in judgment. Having been unable to break the young woman in the harsh confines of her prison the Conqueror decides what the case needs is her own personal touch. What ensues is a battle of wills where there can be only one winner. While this is going on Caesar is setting the stage for a rebellion to take everything Xena owns. Violence, passion, brutality and betray all play major parts in this story. There are scenes of graphic violence and unbridled sexuality." -- Whoosh!

"I've always wondered what would motivate a person to wreck havoc on the land they were born and raised in. Or more precisely, what would have motivated a young Xena to be a conqueror. For riches? For land? For the right to rule people by fear? Would such a truly malevolent person-who rules by fear alone-last long in the job? I kept coming up with only one answer: no. I mean, don't people tend to dispose of despots early in their reigns? (Though there are always exceptions.) Caesars and Hitler's don't last long, and the malicious bitch that is usually Xena the Conqueror wouldn't make it past her second year, more or less. This is a different kind of Conqueror story. I asked myself the question: what if Xena became a conqueror for all the right reasons? Or so she thinks. I present to you Xena Akolastos, the Conqueror that lives in the real ancient world that was Greece..." -- Lori A. Meyers

And that’s when her world turns upside down. While it strays from the average master/slave dynamics, this story shows one of the most complicated and believable relationship between the lead characters.
The Price of Silence is dark (sometimes even brutal), honest and beautifully written. And I highly recommend it." -- Maxine Powers

"Prisoner in the Conqueror’s jail, Gabrielle, the scribe of the Resistance, is surprised when she’s interrogated by Xena herself. Later she’s summoned to keep the bored empress company. Gradually, between the two women blossoms a friendship strong enough to overcome their differences. Friendship with the potential to grow into something more.
Lighter than the most Conqueror stories (graphic-wise), Reisistance shows us how change can be difficult no matter if you’re a powerful ruler or a rebel." -- Maxine Powers
"When the story opens, Gabrielle is in the Conqueror's jail. She is a scribe of the Resistance movement. To ease her boredom, the Conqueror spends time with the brash prisoner. Over time, they develop a friendship and then something more . . . very highly recommended." -- Cee's FanFic Review
". . . this story puts a slightly different spin on things as it begins with Xena the Conqueror meeting with one of the dissenters recently captured by her soldiers - a seemingly harmless slip of a girl who despite her fear of the imposing ruler does not hesitate to spar verbally with her. It is a first meeting that leaves Gabrielle perplexed when the Conqueror doesn't immediately kill her, and leaves the Warrior Princess strangely intrigued by the beautiful little traitor. Unable to fight against the connection neither quite understands in the weeks to come the feared tyrant finds herself doing more and more to try to put a smile on Gabrielle's face, while the rebellious young agitator finds herself incredibly, against all logic, opening her heart to the very same warlord who once decimated her life . . . this is a tale of two women from very different worlds who suddenly find themselves having to struggle against what others expect and demand when they can no longer deny the calling of their souls. It is also a story about a ruler imprisoned by trappings of her own making who finds in the love of a former enemy the strength to finally break the chains around her heart . . . RESISTANCE is OUTSTANDING folks! It receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!" -- Lunacy

What begins as a series of clandestine meetings blossoms into a deeper relationship, and ultimately Xena must acknowledge the change that the young woman has wrought upon her weary soul." -- Swollen Buds

"Not an easy read by ANY means but certainly a memorable one, this unusual Conqueror tale by Lariel is told from the perspective of a simple peasant woman, profoundly moved by the words she heard from a young dissenter condemned to the cross. Determined to deny the Conqueror this one victim, the woman gives shelter to the rebel named Gabrielle but the weeks to come will prove a struggle of their own as Gabrielle deals with both the physical devastation done to her body and the emotional devastation heaped on her spirit - all the while knowing that it's just a matter of time before the most powerful force in the known world finds her again - knowing the likely fate that will await her benefactor but unable now to eliminate the dream of freedom and humanity and self-worth that her own words have given rise to . . . HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" -- Lunacy

“She almost lost her soul once. But this time she was going to make sure that it would never happen again. And if that meant conquering Greece and half the world to do it - so be it. "If you read only one Conqueror story this year - this has to be it. It's one of the best that I've seen deal with the ruler of the Known World. Xena, the Conqueror, is tired and goes out of her palace in search for some peace and quiet. She finds it in a small town of Potadeia where an innkeeper and a young boy capture her heart. I can't say it often enough it's a fantastic read and well worth the time to read this long story. You won't be disappointed." -- Xippy
