Swollen Bud Award: "Instant Gratification -- PWP"
". . . This new offering from the incomparable LN begins when a certain bard, in the mood to play, bets Xena 5 dinars that she can fool people into believing the warrior is in fact...her slave. Amused but doubting anyone would believe the formidable Warrior Princess enslaved by a little bard, Xena agrees, never considering the depths to which her heart has already been conquered...nor suspecting the ingenious plan of attack her VERY determined partner is capable off . . . This is a warlord/slave story that you will NEVER forget . . . QUEEN gets my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!" -- Lunacy
"Can the diminutive young woman from Poteidaia convince anyone that the intimidating warrior with whom she travels is actually her slave? Gabrielle wagers Xena five dinars that she can. The former Destroyer of Nations forgets two crucial things when she takes the bet -- the formidable acting skills required of the best story tellers and how much the bard already owns her heart and soul. There's a good strong plot here -- if that's what you're really interested in (vbg) . . ." -- Swollen Bud

"This beautifully crafted, bitter-sweet tale of Xena and Gabrielle's visit to Pompeii during its last days is IMPOSSIBLE to put down. Xena, narrating from Gabrielle's scrolls, relates a tale where the images of high drama, chaos, destruction and adventure, are nicely balanced with a generous dusting of romantic tension and comedy. " -- Athenaeum
"The story opens with Xena on a lonely stretch of beach, dazed after the loss of her soulmate, turning to the one place where she knows she'll feel the bard's spirit most of all - in Gabrielle's scrolls. Alone with Argo she begins reading those scrolls and reminiscing back to one of the last adventures they shared while on a fateful visit to a city named... Pompeii." -- Academy of Bards
"Set after the end of season three, DJ's latest finds Xena on a lonely stretch of beach, dazed after the loss of her soulmate, turning to the one place where she knows she'll feel the bard's spirit most of all - in Gabrielle's scrolls. Alone with Argo she begins reading those scrolls and reminiscing back to one of the last adventures they shared while on a fateful visit to a city named...Pompeii. With their relationship still not fully healed from the horror of the rift, this was a time full of insecurities and worries for them but also filled with a renewed sense of hope amidst the infectious joviality of a city preparing for one of its grandest festivals. They are even further drawn into the Pompeiian's excitement when they happen across an old friend well-versed in the art of FUN - the incomparable Sappho who we first me in A BARD DAY'S NIGHT and who is soon once again doing what she does best - getting them all into TROUBLE! . . . It receives my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!" -- Lunacy
"Following Gabrielle's plunge into the pit with Hope, a grieving Xena looks for ways to distract and console herself. She finds them in the bard's scrolls and her account of their adventures in Pompeii after the execution of Crassus. In this magnificent 20-part tale, DJWP reunites Xena and Gabrielle with the irrepressible Sappho, poet and their erstwhile employer . . . The "Tenth Muse" is now performing and luxuriating with the wealthy in the shadow of the simmering Mount Vesuvius (and in love with the beautiful and mysterious Phaon). She embroils the traveling companions in a stew of gossip and intrigue centering on a fertility festival and a coveted golden statue." -- Swollen Buds

"Perhaps Hope was not Dahak’s only Earth-born offspring." -- Melpomene Writes
“I conceived and began writing The War shortly after viewing the original airing of the episode The Price in the spring of 1997. This story explores what might have happened between Xena and Gabrielle if the events of that episode had taken place over a much longer period of time. In this version, Gabrielle does not bring about a turning point to the conflict by running outside and giving water to the enemy wounded. I have never believed that the Horde would have watched a foe pouring an unknown liquid down the throats of their injured comrades without responding by putting an ax in her back. So I have eliminated all references to this action. On a more positive note, in this alternative setting, Gabrielle's Bilious Green Sports Bra <tm> was never invented.” -- Kauri
"In an ‘alt' Xenaverse… well, for all we know, maybe they actually did this! Anyway, Xena proposed to Gabrielle somewhere around the end of season 2 or maybe season 3. This is the story of the ensuing ceremony.
Tooth decay warning: This little story is an unashamed mush-fest. A thorough tooth cleaning is recommended after reading." -- Yorksbard

7 year old Gabrielle is spending time with her future in-laws in Amphipolis while young Lyceus spends time in Potadeia. Cyrene may find her vivid imagination amusing, but it's driving 18 year old Xena nuts. -- Rio
